I recommend Clean Pack Installer to install Sims2packs.

1:  Filenames are left intact.

2:  The ability to enable/disable certain parts of the download.

3:  The ability to install content in a folder/subfolder of your choosing.

4:  Clean Pack Installer will let you know if you have duplicate meshes, textures etc.
